| My Telecaster
This is a beautiful, double-bound candy-apple red Telecaster, which I bought from the renowned 'Andy's Guitar Centre' in London. Although the original rosewood neck had a reasonably low action it didn't have the same comfortable 'feel' as my original (24 year old) Tele neck; which has the lowest radius I've ever seen on a Tele. I've therefore had the necks swapped, by my local custom shop (Hot Rod Guitars, Folkestone UK). Having chatted with the custom shop manager we decided on a whole range of alterations which include: Replacement pick up selector (5-way version), replacement, perloid scratchplate, replacement volume & treble knobs (perloid-topped), the neck pick up replaced with a Strat. item (including routing the body), the bridge pick up replaced with a high output version, the three-saddle bridge replaced with a six-saddle version, the neck plate replaced with a 'Fender' inscribed item, and fitting a shaler 'Hip-Shot' lowering peg. This drops the bottom E to D (known as Nashville tuning). As the original tuning keys weren't Shaler, I had to also replace them to match the HipShot. It's still got that great original Tele. sound, but now it offers an extended range of sound options as well. (And looks gorgeous!). |
